In a world that is ever more high tech with apps everywhere, robotics, wearables, subdermal tech (yeah, the under your skin type), is the only response to such a world to get an app for your community (aka business)?
When everybody is jumping on the band wagon perhaps one should take a moment and pause. Surely the only response is not to be more high-tech, and that the polar opposite to be more high-touch, multi sensory, visceral, tactile, just might be the exact answer people are looking for.
Take Exclusive Books for example, a South African book store chain, that has recently been sold and re-branded. Not too long ago with the advent of e-readers, like Kindle and such, many were prophesying the ultimate disappearance of books and brick and mortar book stores.
The more high-tech we become, the more high-touch we need to be. EB seems to be on a mission to be that tactile place, part coffee shop, part new age library, part story. The brand redesign by SWITCH just does that, it's variable, customisable, and human.
I am a flâneur, which basically means I spend a lot of time in coffee shops watching the world go by.
