On Tuesday I did a talk for a client, and the team leader introduced me as an expert on trends.
Sheesh, I cringed. I can't stand that word, or anyone for that matter that refers to themselves as an expert, it's like liking your own profile pic.
The world is moving incredibly fast, it is literally impossible to read all the academic articles published in a year in your field, even if you spend 12 hours a day, every day, reading.
We have moved beyond experts, we are all amateurs.
The good news is that leaves little room for ego. We are all in this together, learning together, figuring stuff out together.
And that is a much better place to be.
I am a flâneur, which basically means I spend a lot of time in coffee shops watching the world go by.
