Two tracks

Joy and sorrow are like a two tracks in the road, always side by side. I was listening to the radio last night on my way home and this reading came up from Kahlil Gibran, also known as The Prophet.

Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter's oven?
And is not the lute that soothes your spirit, the very wood that was hollowed with knives?


Often, especially as a westerner, I can become obsessed with the pursuit of happiness, and anything other than happiness needs to be dealt with, or drugged away, immediately.

Yet, there is truth in Gibran's words, taking responsibility within suffering and sorrow carves out meaning in our lives "so rich we can scarcely bear it" James Hollis
