'I like it..'

When asked where he studied shoe design Manolo Blahnik answered,

“I didn’t need it because I’ve got the best taste in the world.”

In a recent UX meeting, one of the team said how they ‘liked’ the design. The design lead reacted quickly to their comment,

‘You can’t say like, it’s subjective.’

Unless, of course, you’re Manolo Blahnik, then you can say whatever you want.

There is a tension here, where we get perhaps too obsessed with what those we seek to serve want and like, and what we feel in our guts is the best design.

There is also a difference between a legendary designer and my friend at the wine bar’s opinion on the new logo.

Stay in the tension.
