Try blue! It's the new red.

I just rewatched WALL-E with my daughter this weekend.

Besides the brilliant animation, notice the expert use of lensing and lighting, the film is prophetic even apocalyptic.

Now, apocalyptic does not mean a vision of a future disaster or end-of-the-world type stuff. The word means ‘to reveal’. An apocalyptic narrative shows things as they are not as they will be using metaphors and images.

WALL-E is apocalyptic.

The Axiom, the ironic name of the flagship starcruiser, carries its passengers in extreme comfort. They watch their screens all day and are being fed every flavor smoothie whilst being carted around in their hover chairs being sold on every new fad by BNL, the mega-corporation.

When BNL announces blue is the new red, a not-so-subtle political reference, everyone on the ship immediately buys the new color, without a second thought.

They are slaves to media, advertising, and ‘news’. Following along with thinking, reflecting, or questioning.

Sheep.

Lemmings.

Consumers.

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment” - Ralph Waldo Emerson.

How much of your behavior is your choice?

How much do you try to influence the behavior of others for your benefit?

Stop. Think. Choose.
