So a long time ago there was a young boy who one day met a snake. The boy and the snake quickly became best friends.
They did everything together, played hide and seek, shared secrets, joked together, and even cried together. Each night the snake and boy would fall asleep wrapped into one another.
Then one day, while they were playing, the snake spun around and bit him. As the boy lay dying on the ground, he asked the snake, 'Why did you bite me, we are best friends?' The snake replied,
'because I am a snake.'
We tend to read ourselves as the hero in parables, or the victim and never the villain. The truth however is that we are neither the hero nor the villain, we are both.
I might have lifted part of this parable from somewhere, if you know who wrote the original please leave a link.
