These are a few of my favorite things
This week's three.
1. Picture Africa
Curated by the Cathy O’Clery of Platform Creative Agency, Picture Africa is an exhibition celebrating the relationship between, photography and textiles on the African continent. Featuring photography from the continent’s finest image makers alongside textile design from designers and manufactures associated with the African continent.
The exhibition will include work by African photographers such as Phyllis Galembo, Thandiwe Muriu and Ed Suter. These will be joined by South African Fashion DEsigners: Trevor Stuurman, Laduma Ngxoloko, Marianne Fassler and Ghana’s Yevu. Some of the Textile Designers include: Aissata Namoko, Skinny laMinx, Bead Design Studio and Boubacar Doumbia of Le Ndomo textile workshop.
This must-see exhibition will be showcased at the two 100% Design South Africa events scheduled for 2016. The first of these events is the 100% Textiles pavilion, presented in association with renowned furniture brand Southern Hospitality, which is set to be a highlight of upcoming Decorex Cape Town from 29 April – 2 May 2016. “Picture Africa” then travels to Gauteng, where it will be on show at 100% Design South Africa 2016, to be held from 5 – 10 August 2016.
2. 3D Printed Clutch bag
3D printing is all the rage, yet it is still in its infancy, remember your computer in 1995? Well, that is the level 3D printing is at at the moment.
Many 3D printed objects are still rough, and let's face it, just plain ugly. This bag however is not.
Last year, Italian accessories brand Maison 203 released a 3D printed clutch by designer Odo Fioravanti and they’ve again . Ivy sports a whole new theme with its tropical flower-like design that references old illustrations of found botanicals.
The bag will be showcased during Fuori Salone – from the 12th to 17th of April 2016 – at Design Supermarket inside la Rinascente in Piazza Duomo in Milan.
3. Lumen's New Web
I've been a fan of Lumen Pretoria since they started in 2014, they make beautiful trendy (and affordable) lights, and they are super passionate and awesome people.
