Three things I spotted this week, am engaging with, am inspired by, and am pondering about.
1. The New Beautiful
A Key trend in beauty the last couple of years is courage, I wrote about it here. What we term as beautiful as a culture says much about what we value and who we are. Here is another good example of that trend. When Laxmi Saa was 15 years old, she was on her way to work when someone came up behind her and tapped her on the back. When she turned around, that person threw acid in her face. What did she do to deserve this? Reject her attacker’s marriage proposal. Now she is a model for a fashion brand in India, Viva N Diva, representing courage and beauty, and an inspiration for acid attack survivors in India.
2. Okay Africa
My new favorite Instagram account, Okayafrica, in fact their whole mix of media is pretty damn insane. They bring you the latest in African music, African fashion and culture in a way that most are not used to. Okayafrica is The Roots' and Okayplayer’s new cultural guide to all the latest music/culture/politics coming from Africa and the Diaspora. Check out their kickstarter page for great African projects, most of all go on their web and read read read.
Been working with a friend of mine, Louis Louw a great entrepreneur and all round good guy. Talking on SEO and content marketing and all things web, here is one of his favorite quotes:
"Iterating at the whiteboard is a magic, fact free zone"
